Locum Trauma / Surgical Critical Care Surgeon

Location: Fort Wayne, IN
Start Date: Target May 1, 2026
Duration: Ongoing, long-term locum coverage

We are seeking a Trauma / Surgical Critical Care Surgeon for an ongoing locum assignment in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is a long-term opportunity with a consistent coverage model and strong APP support.

Provider Requirements

• Board Certified in General Surgery and Critical Care

• Fellowship trained in Trauma / Surgical Critical Care

• Experience with:

  • Medical/Surgical ICU (MSICU)

  • Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

  • Cardiac ICU (CICU)

Schedule & Coverage

• Coverage provided in 7-day blocks, up to 21 days per month

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM 5:00 PM

  • Night backup call immediately following the day shift

• Night Shift: 5:00 PM 7:00 AM (next day)

  • Day backup call for the preceding day shift

  • Daytime backup call is rarely activated

Team Structure

• Day Team

  • 2 Surgeons + 2 APPs

  • 1 Surgeon/APP cover ICU & Trauma

  • 1 Surgeon/APP cover Floors & Emergency General Surgery

• Night Team

  • 1 Surgeon + 1 APP covering the entire service

Clinic Responsibilities

• Clinic held Tuesday and Thursday

• Primarily APP-covered

• Surgeon sees select MD-only patients, including:

  • Ongoing wound care

  • Interval appendectomies

  • Cholecystostomy tubes requiring future cholecystectomy

• Clinic located in office space attached to the hospital
