About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to assess complex insurance risks and help grow a profitable underwriting portfolio. Working closely with brokers, claims professionals, pricing analysts, risk consultants, and underwriting leaders, you'll make informed underwriting decisions, build strong business relationships, and provide technical expertise that supports exceptional customer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and underwrite complex commercial and personal insurance risks.
Evaluate new business submissions, renewals, endorsements, and referrals.
Determine appropriate coverage, policy terms, limits, deductibles, and premium pricing.
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and business partners.
Manage a profitable underwriting portfolio while achieving growth and profitability objectives.
Review risk information and make sound underwriting decisions in line with company guidelines.
Ensure compliance with underwriting policies, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
Provide technical guidance and mentor junior underwriters.
Collaborate with claims, actuarial, pricing, risk engineering, and sales teams to deliver customer-focused insurance solutions.
Monitor portfolio performance and identify opportunities to improve underwriting quality and profitability.
Stay informed about industry trends, emerging risks, and market developments.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and underwriting best practices.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field (preferred).
Several years of commercial or personal lines underwriting experience.
Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, insurance products, and risk assessment.
Experience managing broker relationships and negotiating complex insurance solutions.
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
CIP, CRM, CPCU, or other insurance industry designations are considered an asset.
Leadership or mentoring experience is highly regarded.
