Manager, Revenue Recognition

Job description:

• This role is heavy on revenue recognition lifecycle, meaning, the candidate must be able to lead/drive their allocated Lines of Business/Products specific to a high volume of individual customer contracts and related revenue recognition.
• This role will require managing certain offshore resources which are responsible for supporting the allocated Lines of Business/Products customer contracts and related revenue recognition.
• This role requires a candidate to be actively/heavily in the details of their allocated Lines of Business/Products to effectively manage their respective revenue streams.
  • Multiple revenue streams which primarily include:
    • Software License
    • Software Maintenance
    • Transaction Processing and Services
    • Professional Services (including, Percentage of Completion, T&M, and Completed Contract)
    • Other Types
• This role requires a candidate to work within both systems/automated workstreams and manual (i.e. Excel driven) workstreams, depending on the revenue type and other factors/considerations.
• This role requires the candidate to have both accounting skills and financial analyst skills.
  • Accounting skills include the ability to understand accounting processes, customer contract specific accounting based on revenue recognition guidance, balance sheet positions, and P&L presentation.
    • Preparation and/or review/approval of manual journal entries will be required
    • Preparation and/or review/approval of balance sheet reconciliations will be required
  • Financial analyst skills include the ability to understand revenue trends (both at a customer level and aggregated revenue by type level) and forecast to actual variances to determine whether additional accounting considerations must be addressed. Further, ability to discuss such trends and variances is required with other stakeholders (i.e. FP&A, Billing Team, Corporate Accounting, etc.) more heavily during month-end close period.
• This role requires the candidate to manage their allocated Lines of Business/Products through tight month-end close activities and internal reporting activities timelines.
• This role will support certain non-SOX controls and certain SOX controls.
• This role requires a highly detailed and driven individual.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a national accounting firm or a combination of experience at national accounting firm and in a corporate accounting department of a multi-national company
• Knowledge of Oracle financial systems, Hyperion/Essbase reporting tools and strong excel skills
• CPA or equivalent preferred
• Requires strong organizational, team building, coaching and mentoring skills
• Requires general business skills, industry knowledge, financial management and planning skills, long-term vision and executive presence
• Ability to utilize judgment in decision making process and decisions related to job tasks
• Excellent skills in communicating ideas both verbally and in written form in a clear, concise and professional manner including presentations
• Ability to design, document and implement process improvements
• Strong system management/control experience
• Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application in a large, diverse organization
• Skill in productivity, planning, and workload management
• Ability to analyze financial results
