Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Welders to join a custom manufacturing team producing highly engineered mobile material-handling equipment for rail-related applications.
The ideal candidate will have MIG welding experience, strong blueprint and 3D schematic reading skills, and the ability to fabricate and assemble components using hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment. Experience working in a custom build or fabrication shop is highly preferred.
This role involves welding fabricated components, assembling mechanical systems, performing quality checks, troubleshooting defects, and preparing finished machinery for shipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Weld fabricated parts, components, and assemblies at designated floor stations.
- Perform MIG welding according to blueprints, specifications, routings, and standard work.
- Read and interpret blueprints, 3D prints, schematics, BOMs, and technical drawings.
- Fabricate small components and perform basic fitting and assembly.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices accurately.
- Assemble equipment according to product specifications and established procedures.
- Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to ensure required tolerances and specifications are met.
- Identify components that do not meet quality or tolerance requirements and perform necessary repairs.
- Handle materials, tools, and equipment manually or using jib cranes/overhead cranes, including performing required hitching.
- Prepare completed machinery and equipment for shipment.
- Complete production, quality assurance, and other required documentation.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to communicate technical information and resolve issues.
- Participate in team meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and process improvement activities.
- Maintain 5S standards, departmental housekeeping, and an organized work area.
- Follow all safety procedures, Quality Management System requirements, and manufacturing standards.
- Support less-experienced team members by sharing technical knowledge and expertise.
- Perform other duties within or outside the primary trade as assigned, with training provided when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5+ years of experience, preferably in a custom build or fabrication shop.
- At least 2 years of MIG welding experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret 3D prints and schematics.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to read and enter production-related information.
- Ability to read and comprehend procedures and instructions written in English.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and think critically.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
- Custom fabrication or custom equipment manufacturing.
- Welding and assembly of heavy equipment or industrial machinery.
- Mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic assembly.
- Rail equipment or material-handling equipment.
- Experience working with BOMs, routings, specifications, and standard work instructions.
- Experience using cranes or jibs for material handling.
Safety & Quality
- Follow all safety and work rules and regulations.
- Maintain required manufacturing housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Consistently maintain quality and productivity expectations.
- Adhere to Quality Management System requirements.
- Wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots and safety glasses.
- Maintain a safety-focused approach when welding, fabricating, assembling, and handling materials.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Stooping, crouching, bending, reaching above the shoulders, climbing, and working underneath equipment.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. independently.
- Lift or move up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Operate and work around manufacturing equipment and cranes.
- Work in a typical manufacturing environment with seasonal temperature variations and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products.
Work Authorization
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements, including drug screening and fitness-for-duty testing where required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a skilled MIG Welder/Fabricator who can independently read blueprints and 3D drawings, fabricate and weld components, perform mechanical assembly, and maintain high quality and safety standards in a custom manufacturing environment.
