ABOUT WELL DONE FOUNDATION

The Well Done Foundation (WDF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying, measuring, plugging, and restoring orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells across the United States. Through field operations, technical expertise, regulatory coordination, and environmental stewardship, WDF works to permanently eliminate methane emissions and other environmental risks associated with abandoned well infrastructure.

ABOUT THE ROLE

WDF is seeking a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Field Specialist to support field activities for the Deep Fork Project. This is a hands-on field position responsible for supporting safe and environmentally compliant execution of well plugging and abandonment activities, site access and restoration work, contractor operations, and related field activities.

The HSE Field Specialist will work closely with WDF project personnel, site supervisors, contractors, and service providers to identify hazards, verify implementation of project HSE requirements, document field conditions, and help ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, applicable requirements, and WDF standards.

The ideal candidate has practical oilfield, construction, environmental, or industrial safety experience and is comfortable working around active equipment and changing field conditions. This individual must be able to recognize hazards, communicate concerns clearly, maintain accurate documentation, and support field teams without unnecessarily disrupting operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide field HSE support for Deep Fork Project activities from mobilization through plugging completion, site restoration, and demobilization.

• Participate in and support daily tailgate safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), pre-job planning, and task-specific hazard assessments.

• Observe field activities and identify unsafe conditions, unsafe work practices, environmental concerns, or deviations from established project requirements.

• Verify that required personal protective equipment (PPE), site controls, signage, barriers, emergency equipment, and other safety measures are in place and being used appropriately.

• Monitor work around plugging rigs, cementing equipment, wireline units, excavators, trucks, tanks, pumps, and other equipment and service providers operating on location.

• Support atmospheric monitoring and field screening activities as required by the project, including documentation of instrument readings and field observations.

• Monitor site conditions for spills, releases, leaks, impacted soil or water, hazardous atmospheres, and other potential environmental concerns and promptly communicate observed conditions to project management.

• Support spill prevention and response activities, including inspection of secondary containment, fuel and chemical storage areas, waste handling practices, and housekeeping.

• Assist with environmental inspections and documentation associated with access routes, well locations, erosion and sediment controls, surface water, wetlands, and site restoration activities, as applicable.

• Maintain accurate HSE field records, inspection forms, photographs, incident and near-miss documentation, corrective-action tracking, and other project documentation.

• Coordinate with WDF project personnel and contractors to address identified HSE issues and verify corrective actions are completed.

• Exercise stop-work authority when an imminent or serious safety or environmental concern exists and immediately communicate the condition to appropriate project personnel.

• Support incident response, initial fact gathering, documentation, and follow-up actions when injuries, spills, near misses, property damage, or other HSE events occur.

• Promote a practical, field-focused safety culture through consistent communication, professional conduct, and active engagement with crews and contractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 5 years of relevant HSE, oil and gas, construction, environmental, industrial, or field operations experience.

• Working knowledge of field safety practices, hazard recognition, JSAs, PPE requirements, and basic incident prevention principles.

• Experience working around heavy equipment, trucks, active construction, drilling, well servicing, plugging, or similar industrial operations.

• Ability to recognize and communicate potential safety and environmental hazards in a field environment.

• Ability to read and understand project plans, safety procedures, inspection forms, and field documentation.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, field crews, project personnel, and regulatory representatives.

• Ability to maintain accurate and complete field records and photographs.

• Ability to use handheld field instruments and electronic data collection tools as required for project activities.

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Oil and gas well plugging, drilling, workover, well servicing, or environmental field experience.

• Experience conducting HSE inspections, field audits, incident documentation, or corrective-action tracking.

• Familiarity with atmospheric monitoring, methane and gas detection equipment, spill prevention and response, and environmental field screening.

• Relevant safety or environmental training or certifications applicable to oilfield and construction operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is primarily a field-based position supporting the Deep Fork Project and requires travel to project locations. The HSE Field Specialist must be able to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions and around active oilfield and construction equipment. Field schedules may include early mornings, long days, weekends, extended shifts, and overnight stays depending on project requirements and active well operations.

The position requires the ability to safely navigate active well sites and access routes, stand and walk for extended periods, climb or access equipment as necessary, and wear required personal protective equipment.

The successful HSE Field Specialist is visible in the field, understands the work being performed, recognizes when conditions or practices create unnecessary risk, and communicates concerns in a practical and professional manner. This person combines strong hazard awareness with sound judgment, attention to detail, and an understanding that effective HSE support must work alongside field operations.

Success means helping the Deep Fork Project complete its work safely and responsibly while maintaining clear, accurate documentation of field conditions, inspections, concerns, and corrective actions.
