Fire Chief - Sackville Fire & Rescue

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Fire Chief serves as the most senior officer of the fire department, responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and operational readiness of the department. This role ensures that the department delivers effective emergency response, maintains high training standards, and supports a positive, safe, and professional environment for firefighters.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must have ten (10) years of experience as a firefighter and five (5) years of experience as a senior officer. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• NFPA 1010 Level 2 Firefighter and NFPA 1041 Instructor I.
• Air endorsed Class 3 or Class 1 Drivers License.
• Post-secondary education in fire service administration and/or IFSAC Seals or ProBoard certification, considered an asset.
• Experience in a Fire Chief's role considered an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of professionalism.
• Fire investigation techniques and evidence preservation.
• Community risk reduction strategies and public education program development.
• Conflict resolution, team building, and organizational culture development.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with all Firefighters, along with Municipal Council, staff, partnering agencies and the public.
• Ability to lead and motivate personnel, fostering teamwork, accountability and a positive organizational culture.

Hours of work:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Training-night schedule adjusted to reflect a seven-hour workday. Evening and weekends as required.
