This opportunity combines direct patient care with administrative oversight in a mission-driven healthcare environment serving the Alaska Department of Corrections. You ll provide primary and higher-acuity care to a population with complex medical needs while supervising regional clinicians and participating in organizational policy development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide primary health care and infirmary-level care to inmates, including higher-acuity chronic care patients.

  • Travel in-state for day visits to regional correctional facilities.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat illnesses or injuries, authorizing outside medical services as needed.

  • Provide clinical supervision of regional nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

  • Share phone backup call with other state physicians (1:3 weeks, typically 2 calls/day).

  • Serve as a liaison with correctional administrators and staff.

  • Participate as part of the leadership team in developing policies and serving as a medical-legal subject matter expert.

Position Requirements
  • Unrestricted Alaska medical license

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine

  • Active BLS and DEA registration

  • Cultural sensitivity and willingness to work with Alaska Native communities and underserved populations

Schedule
  • Monday Friday, 37.5 hours per week

  • Shared phone backup call (1:3 weeks), $1000/wk extra pay
