Position Summary

The General Dentist provides comprehensive oral healthcare services to adult and pediatric patients in a community health center setting. This role emphasizes preventive care, patient education, and evidence-based treatment while working collaboratively within an integrated care model to support whole-person health.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Care
  • Perform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning

  • Provide a full scope of general dentistry services, including:

    • Preventive care (cleanings, fluoride, sealants)

    • Restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns)

    • Simple and surgical extractions

    • Endodontic and limited prosthodontic procedures, as appropriate

  • Manage dental emergencies and urgent care needs

  • Deliver care in accordance with evidence-based clinical standards and FQHC guidelines

Patient Education & Engagement
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, disease prevention, and treatment options

  • Promote patient understanding, compliance, and long-term oral health

  • Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive care

Collaboration & Program Support
  • Work closely with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and front-office staff

  • Collaborate with medical and behavioral health providers as part of an integrated care team

  • Participate in community outreach, school-based programs, or health education initiatives as assigned

Documentation, Compliance & Quality
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic dental record (EDR)

  • Comply with HRSA, OSHA, CDC, and Ohio Dental Practice Act requirements

  • Adhere to infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and performance improvement activities

Required Qualifications
  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school

  • Current or eligible Ohio dental license

  • DEA registration (or eligibility)

  • CPR/BLS certification

  • Commitment to serving underserved and diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting

  • Experience treating Medicaid and uninsured populations

  • Familiarity with electronic dental records and quality reporting

  • Interest in community outreach and preventive dentistry
