The City of Thompson invites qualified applicants to submit a resume for consideration for the full time position of Community Safety Officer.
Responsibilities- Enforce bylaws passed by Council and appointed statutes.
- Assist and work cooperatively with the RCMP and other stakeholders using a collaborative enforcement model.
- Enforce prevention, intervention, and education of applicable legislation with an emphasis on the downtown area.
- Conduct patrols within the community.
- Investigate and respond to by law complaints.
- Ensure resolution either by education and redirection or ticketing.
- Explain and interpret policies and regulations to the public and Administration.
- Maintain documents and files.
- Prepare notices, summonses, and other legal documents.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all information.
- Superior interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on effective communication and conflict resolution.
- Excellent oral and written communication; focus on customer service and public relations.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional manner and make sound decisions under stressful public conditions.
- Knowledge of issues facing hard to serve populations, including homelessness, addictions, crime prevention, and public safety.
- Understanding of the social roots of crime.
- Knowledge of community resources.
