QAI has an exciting career opportunity with the Building Products department. We are currently looking for a Testing Technician to join our Toronto, ON location. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has a technical diploma with four years of experience or more, working in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry, with knowledge of common ASTM, UL and CSA test methods relating to building products. Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will perform, but not be limited to, the following:

Prepare, assemble, and install building product samples for testing in accordance with drawings, specifications, and nationally recognized standards such as CSA, UL, ASTM, and related protocols. Construct test fixtures, frames, chambers, boxes, and other specialized setups required to conduct laboratory testing. Operate laboratory equipment and instrumentation used to measure thermal performance, moisture transmission, air leakage, temperature, and other physical properties of building materials and systems. Build and install test bucks for windows and doors, conduct testing, and accurately document test results, inspections, observations, and evaluations. Perform physical and environmental testing on a variety of building products, including: Insulation materials Building envelope and weather barrier systems Guardrail and safety railing systems Windows, doors, and skylights Steel panel and cladding products Structural panel systems

Maintain a working knowledge of the QAI Quality Management System and associated administrative procedures. Travel throughout Canada and the United States as required to support testing, inspections, evaluations, and client projects. Prepare, review, and maintain clear, accurate, and objective technical reports, test records, and supporting documentation. Conduct factory inspections and audits at client manufacturing facilities and other remote locations. Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to support project objectives and customer satisfaction. Contribute positively to a collaborative, fast-paced team environment with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will:

Diploma in Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Building Sciences, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.Preferably 1-3 years related experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry Knowledge of US and Canada building codes and referenced nationally recognized safety standards is a plus. Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat and professional email communication.Demonstrated understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), including accurate data collection, record keeping, equipment handling, and laboratory safety procedures.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, auditors, inspectors, and internal team members.Willingness to work a flexible schedule and perform overtime when required to meet project timelines and customer commitments.

Accepts instruction and follows it for testing and/or calibration outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience. Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and/or calibration and apply it to specific test methods. Able to perform testing and/or calibration and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing and/or calibration graduates to more complex testing and/or calibration methods. Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge. Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline. Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy. Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.

Candidate must hold a valid driver's licenseForklift License preferred Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion
