Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship (or equivalent advanced subspecialty training)
• Providers without fellowship training may be considered on a case-by-case basis with significant experience in:
  • Neonatal cardiac surgery
  • Infant cardiac surgery
  • Complex congenital heart surgery
  • Interventional cardiology procedures
  • Electrophysiology procedures

Practice Details

• Cardiac Operating Room
• Cardiac Catheterization Lab
• Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
• Cardiac CT/MRI imaging anesthesia
• Typical daily workload:
  • Approximately 1 cardiac OR case
  • Approximately 3 cath lab procedures
  • 2-3 cardiac imaging studies

Core Cardiac Team Responsibilities

• Cardiac bypass surgery
• Select cardiac catheterization procedures
• Neonatal cardiac cases
• Mediastinal explorations
• Cardiac ECMO procedures
• Quality improvement initiatives
• Program development
• Heart Center governance participation

Coverage Includes

• Adult congenital cardiac patients
• Pediatric cardiac anesthesia cases
• Cardiac catheterization
• Electrophysiology procedures
• Cardiac imaging requiring anesthesia

Does Not Cover

• OB anesthesia
• General Pediatrics call
• Adult anesthesia call
• Adult cases other than adult congenital cardiac patients

Support Model

• No CRNAs
• Core Cardiac Team support available

Patient Population

• Primarily pediatric patients
• Adult congenital cardiac patients (18+ as appropriate)
• Pediatric Trauma Level II-IV
