Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant) - General Urology - Inpatient/Outpatient

Position Summary

Urology Associates is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our General Urology team. The APP will work collaboratively with physicians and other members of the clinical team to provide comprehensive urologic care to adult patients in both outpatient clinic and inpatient settings.

This position will include rotating responsibilities between outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and rotating weekend call coverage as determined by departmental needs and provider scheduling. The APP will evaluate and manage urologic conditions, provide pre- and post-operative care, perform appropriate office-based procedures, and assist with continuity of care across clinical settings.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to manage a high-volume patient population both independently and collaboratively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history and physical examinations.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic urologic conditions within the APP's scope of practice and in collaboration with supervising/collaborating physicians.
• Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.
• Order, interpret, and review laboratory testing, imaging studies, and diagnostic procedures.
• Perform office-based urologic procedures within scope of practice, training, and demonstrated competency.
• Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, procedures, and follow-up care.
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for urologic patients.
• Provide follow-up and ongoing management for medical and surgical urology patients.
• Rotate between outpatient clinic and inpatient responsibilities based on departmental scheduling and patient care needs.
• Provide inpatient urologic care, including patient evaluations, rounding, follow-up care, coordination of treatment plans, and communication with the supervising/collaborating physician and hospital care team.
• Assist with transitions of care between the inpatient and outpatient settings to promote continuity and appropriate follow-up.
• Document patient encounters accurately and timely within the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist with coordination of care, referrals, and authorizations as appropriate.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, fellow APPs, nursing staff, medical assistants, hospital personnel, and administrative staff.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and practice development.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, hospital, and organizational regulations, policies, and clinical standards.
• Share in rotating weekend call coverage to support continuity of patient care and departmental coverage needs.
• Perform other clinical duties within scope of practice as assigned based on departmental and patient care needs.

Preferred Clinical Experience

Experience in the following areas is preferred:

• General adult urology
• Overactive bladder and urinary incontinence
• Recurrent urinary tract infections
• Voiding dysfunction
• Kidney stone management
• Catheter management
• Pre-operative and post-operative urologic care
• Inpatient or hospital-based patient management

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current Tennessee NP or PA license in good standing.
• Current board certification.
• DEA registration and prescriptive authority, as applicable.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of APP experience preferred; urology experience strongly preferred.
• Previous inpatient or hospital-based experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration with supervising/collaborating physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
• Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a high-volume clinical environment.
• EMR experience required.
• Ability and willingness to rotate between outpatient and inpatient responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to assist with and perform clinical procedures within scope of practice.
• Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment as needed.
• Ability to perform duties in both outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital environments.

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Primary schedule Monday-Friday.
• Rotating outpatient clinic and inpatient responsibilities based on departmental needs and provider scheduling.
• Procedural responsibilities as appropriate based on training, competency, and patient care needs.
• Shared rotating weekend call coverage to support continuity of patient care and departmental coverage needs.
